Adharbayjan (Amirs of)

204-259 AH

Between 204 AH to 259 AH (approximately 819 CE to 873 CE), Azerbaijan was governed by a series of Amirs (governors) under the nominal authority of the Abbasid Caliphate, during a period of decentralization in the Islamic world. This era marks the rise of local dynasties and military governors asserting autonomy while still acknowledging the Caliph in Baghdad.
